Artist Statement

My “Self-Barbie-Rait” pieces express an ongoing discussion within the images themselves.

Who are “we”, “she” or “me”?

The question of identity arises over and over, year after year. A question I believe is a common and ongoing theme in our society. To me, the Barbie show sums up some of these problems by presenting a distorted perspective of HOW people in this world think a successful person should look, behave and live one’s life.

With my mixed media version of “Self-Barbie-Rait”, showing at the 2011 Barbie exhibition, I give you the opportunity to “try on” my vision of the female fatale.
