ARTIST BIO

Charlotte Davis is an artist who has worked in many media, primarily 3-Dimensional ones; miniature sculpture, found object assemblage, costumes, and art jewelry. She is the local Hot Glue expert and teaches Altered Barbie Workshops.

She was sole owner and designer of CARMEN & CO. a jewelry company specializing in fruit and vegetable jewelry, chess sets, and signature dinner necklaces.

She was a co-founder of THE SOFT TOUCH, a Haight Ashbury artist's cooperative gallery on Haight Street, which operated for more than 20 years, and produced the first Altered Barbie Show.

She is currently exploring more electronic sculptures.

Artist Statement

One thing apparent in all of my work is the possibility of absurd conflicts..... such as the Barbie vs. the Power Puff Girls chess set; Fruit vs. Vegetable chess set....... the possibilities of making you laugh. Barbie parody postcards; or the possibilities of ridiculous adornments..... such as Barbie body parts jewelry.

I also employ the idea of transformation. A beautiful Barbie with a Troll head becomes a beautiful and funny troll.

All in all, looking for a good laugh is the point of my work.....but somehow, they often end up looking beautiful too.
