I have been exploring various arts and crafts for the past 10 years. I started with Bookbinding and continued with Ceramics and Sewing. I always come back to the tactile aspect of my art. I have a need to make something with my hands.
Every time I find a new medium, I feel my art expand in new areas. But the greatest joy for me is making something that makes someone else smile.
- Artist Statement
The Goddess Barbie series was inspired by my spiritual beliefs. I find the feminine divine very powerful and comforting. When I first saw the Altered Barbie show, I was delighted to see what others had made. It reminded me of the whimsical nature of art in San Francisco. Last year when there was a workshop on "How to Alter a Barbie" I was exstatic: I can play with Barbie!!! In preparing for the show, I planned on several Goddesses. My art and muses have a way of leading me to the right path. When I saw a Golden Lotus among the materials, I knew I would make Laxmi: the Hindu Goddess of Prosperity. This year I have expanded this theme with a collection of the Hindu Trinity of Goddesses: Laxmi, Saraswati and Durga.
