One body of my work is about the female body image. I have many works that address the idea of the perfect female body, in the form of Barbie and how this affects woman today. I have a series of Barbie coffins that for me symbolize putting this ridiculous image to rest so that the woman of today can start over and learn that every body is beautiful. In conjunction with that series I did a set of linoleum cut Barbie tombstones, to reiterate the death of this stereotype. I also have a triptych piece which depicts an image of three torsos, one of Barbie and two of real women. This piece truly shows how unreal the image of Barbie is.
In a way all of my work is very personal. I believe that art should be an expression of the artist, for me it is an expression of the things that I am passionate about. In my other works, such as my paintings I focus on ocean life since this is another concept that is close to my heart having grown up by the sea. Although my works are very personal, I believe that they also are very approachable for the viewer and have a greater message that can relate to the viewer, as well as to me.
